A true ‘barn find’, this W111 Coupé is UK-supplied, RHD and off the road since 1977.
The W111 Coupé must be one of the prettiest post-war Mercedes; expensive and the epitome of glamour. Only 776 220SE Coupés were built in right-hand drive worldwide, so were always extremely rare in the UK.
Built in October 1961 and supplied new by Denham Motor Sales Ltd of Buckinghamshire, it was finished in Hellblau (light blue) with a darker blue leather and a four-speed (floor change) manual gearbox.
The car is very original apart from a respray to its current two-tone, most probably carried out in the 70s. It was apparently taken off the road in 1977 with work required to the clutch. This never happened and the car remained locked away for the next 45 years.
The original books – owner’s manual, service book and parts catalogue – come with the car, along with a new V5 registration certificate and a complete set of keys. We have obtained a dating certificate and copy of the car’s datacard from Mercedes’ archive, which come with the car too.
Matching numbers with original engine. The car is also complete with no parts missing as far as we can see. Rolls easily for loading purposes.
Requires a full restoration, but is an excellent basis given this car’s originality and the desirability of W111 Coupés, particularly this rare right-hand drive from the first year of production.
Should the new owner wish, we can carry out the restoration. Please get in touch to discuss.
