A fantastic project for the hands-on enthusiast. This W123 280E is a running and driving, remarkably solid car.

Supplied new by David J Sparshatt Ltd in February 1984, this 280E was originally finished in Moss Green with a green cloth interior. It had alloy wheels, electric windows, electric sunroof and rear headrests.

There’s a great history with 30 services recorded over two service books and a folder of paperwork. At some stage the car received a restoration and was repainted in white. There is a CD of photographs from the restoration. Among the recent work carried out is a transmission fluid change and new brake calipers. Last owner 9 years. HPI clear. 210k miles.

As the photos show the car is cosmetically very clean and tidy. The paintwork is nice with no corrosion to the wheel arches, and the front wings are perfect. The wheels are in great shape and wear matching Michelin tyres all round.

The underside on this car is very good indeed for a W123, with just a couple of repairs to the offside floor required.

The interior is generally tidy. There are no cracks on the dashboard. There is however a little wear to the driver’s seat base. See photos.

The car starts runs and drives fine. The engine seems very healthy with excellent oil pressure and no smoke but runs a little lumpy when cold. The automatic gearbox shifts well and it stops and steers as it should too.

There is no current MoT, so it must be transported away.

This is a nice, straightforward project for somebody. A great way to get into a six-cylinder W123 at a very attractive price.
