This funky W460 G-Wagen is a short wheelbase, six-cylinder 280GE recently subject to a considerable renovation.
First registered in August 1984 by BK Thomas of Nottingham, it was specified with period-perfect Agave Green paintwork, along with the 280 engine – the most powerful available – and a five-speed manual gearbox. It has the optional headlamp wash, lamp guards, factory and tow bar and rev counter too.
In recent years this G has had a lot of money spent on it. The body has been completely resprayed in the original colour but with gloss black arch extensions, roof and trim. It wears Mercedes five-spoke alloy wheels, finished in gloss black and wearing five new Goodyear tyres.
The interior has been completely retrimmed at a cost of £5500 in black leather with black carpeting and a green Alcantara headliner. The trimming included covering the dashboard and door cards in leather with green stitching. It has been very nicely done.
Upgraded to central locking and electric windows, plus a modern stereo.
Mechanically, the G has had a cylinder head rebuild and new head gasket, a new steering box, starter motor and exhaust system. All the springs and dampers have been replaced plus the rear damper mounts and much more.
Comes with original books, folder of paperwork, two keys and clear HPI certificate.
Lots of fun to drive and, having had all the above work, drives really well. The rarely specified 280 engine makes this much smoother and more eager than the usual four-cylinders and diesels.
A great classic G-Wagen that’s ready to enjoy.
