A fabulous W460 G-Wagen, cosmetically correct and in beautiful condition, direct from long-term ownership and with a full service history.

This is the antithesis of the modern AMG, huge-wheeled, tinted windowed, G-Wagen. It is what the G was intended to be – a no-frills, multi-purpose, all-terrain car designed for field or highway.

Finished in its original colour of China Blue with black/grey chequered cloth trim. Being the 300GD model, it is fitted with MB’s legendary 5-cylinder, 3-litre OM617 diesel. It has the optional five-speed manual transmission, plus a factory towbar and headlamp wash.

Of particular interest is the turbo conversion, carried out when the car was new, or nearly new. There were a few companies offering this conversion in the 80s, and it dramatically improves the performance and driveability of the diesel W460s allowing them to cruise comfortably at motorway speed and much faster acceleration.

First registered by T H Bennett Motors of Blackpool in May 1989. It had two owners recorded until 1993 (although the first may well have been MB), then the third owner for 10 years until 2003. It was then sold by The G-Wagen Centre in Berkshire to the last family of Mercedes collectors who have kept it over 20 years.

There are two service books containing 27 stamps, majority main dealer, taking the history up to 2013, then a file of paperwork thereafter.

In 2016/17 the G-Wagen was subject to a light restoration with many thousands spent. This included replacement of the rear wings, rear corner panels and sills. Once the new panels were fitted the body was completely repainted in its original colour. In addition, the seats have been retrimmed in the original material. Mechanically the car has always been carefully maintaned - all the dampers are recent Bilsteins, and the tyres are recent General Grabbers.

As a result, this G is in excellent condition throughout – outside, inside and underneath.

This is a G-Wagen with a lot of appeal; the colour, the originality, the turbo engine, the provenance of long-term ownership and of course the condition.
