1992 Mercedes-Benz 600SEL

A rare, early W140 600SEL with just 2 owners from new that has benefitted from considerable expenditure.
The W140 was perhaps the last hurrah for traditional Mercedes. In fact its gestation was so delayed and over-budget that it brought about the change of ethos for the 90s. When it was unveiled in 1991, the car certainly caused a splash. While traditionally Mercedes and still very formal in its styling, this was a thoroughly modern car, brimming with the latest technology. Overnight it made its predecessor, the W126, and its rivals look very dated indeed. The 600SEL was top of the tree, costing over £100k, and remained fairly rare as it was only bought by those for whom money was no object.
This 600 was registered in January 1992 and finished in one of the most interesting colours of the period, Bornite, contrasted by a Mushroom leather interior. Typically, for a 600, it has an impressive specification including power/heated rear seats, power rear blind, Becker Mexico, memory/heated/orthopaedic front seats, climate control etc. The full specification is listed below.
The first owner was Sultan Ahmed Shah of Virginia Water who kept the car until 2016. Since then it has been owned by a Mercedes collector who has spent a fortune on the car with the aim of having one of the finest early W140 600s.
The work, carried out by Mercedes and ourselves, included a new, genuine engine bottom end, new wiring harnesses, radiator and a refresh of the suspension and brakes plus new Continental tyres. In excess of £30k has been spent on the car.
The car has all its books/manuals and service book along with copious service history and all bills for the recent work. Unusually the car still has its key box with all its factory supplied keys.
In beautiful condition throughout with superb bodywork and interior. As you might expect the car drives beautifully with all the power and refinement that wowed the world 30 years ago.
V12 W140s are very hard to find, particularly in the right condition. This is a very special car in great colours with only two owners and no expense spared on maintenance.
