A very well-sorted example of the iconic W124 E500, finished in Brilliant Silver with black leather trim. A German market car with full-service history from new.

The collaboration between Porsche and Mercedes that created the 500E/E500 is a well-known tale. Porsche’s involvement honed the car into a true sports saloon while utilising the redundant 959 production line to build the car, largely by hand.

Devoid of spoilers or stripes or, particularly as this example was de-badged from the factory, any clues as to its identity other than the slightly swollen arches, the E500 was an iron fist in a velvet glove; discreet, fast, and expensive.

This E500 was delivered new in ’93 to Berlin and remaining in the city, serviced by its supplying dealer, until it came to the UK in ’97.

All original books and manuals come with the car and the service book details 22 services at Mercedes main dealers and marque specialists. There is also a folder of receipts that detail all the maintenance that has been carried out since ’97.

Recently the car has benefitted from replacement engine wiring harnesses, new catalytic converters and new distributor caps and rotor arms along with a service and new springs.

In addition, two common E500 issues have been addressed with a new rear screen and new headliner. The history paints a picture of a car that has been very well looked after since new.

Overall the condition is excellent – very nice paintwork, unmarked wheels wearing matching Pirellis. The interior is also in excellent condition and benefits from an upgraded audio system incorporating a Becker Mexico CD head unit and tasteful incorporated Jehnert door speaker pods.

Similarly, the engine bay presents extremely well with its zinc plating remaining bright.

On the road this example feels as tight and sorted as they get, which is a testament to not only the level to which these cars were built, but also the standard to which it has been maintained. The oil pressure and temperature readings are correct and the car romps along flowing A-roads.

In summary, a well sorted, well maintained E500 with a continuous history from new. These cars were one of the definitive fast saloons of the 90s and a very enjoyable car to drive that always feel greater than the sum of their parts.
