Costing circa £150k new and packing 612bhp together with 737lb/ft of torque, the S65 AMG was always destined to be a rare super saloon and the preserve of those to whom money was no object.

 

For most who wanted an AMG S-Class, the S63 did everything they needed. So, in many ways the 65 solely existed to prove the point that nothing exceeds like excess. It is all the more wonderful for it.

 

Powered by a 6-litre V12 with twin turbochargers built by AMG, it is worth pointing out that aside from its 737lb/ft headline figure (which was in itself limited), the engine made 552lb/ft at just 1500rpm. Suffice to say this is a car that, despite its considerable weight and size, always feels monstrously fast.

 

This 2008 example, finished in Obsidian Black with Designo cream leather trim, has just 47,659 miles from new, with full Mercedes service history totalling seven services. It has just been serviced and health checked (October 2022) by Mercedes of Loughborough at 47,613 miles.
