A charming 1988 2CV in Bleu Celeste with grey cloth trim. Freshly serviced with 12 months MoT.

Needing little introduction, the 2CV came to symbolise not only French motoring in the 20th century, but France itself. Designed pre-war, the car to mobilise the masses lasted until the summer of 1990, by which time it was an anachronism and a classic in its own lifetime. The car’s appeal goes a long way beyond its quirky looks, the design is so unencumbered by convention – it is entirely unconventional but, it works. It is also tremendous fun to drive, particularly in the summer when the full-length canvas roof can be rolled all the way back.

This example is remarkably original and does not appear to have been restored. We understand the car was dry stored between 2009 and 2019, then again until this year. The bodywork is original and remarkably solid. As you can see from the photos, the body looks great but obviously isn’t immaculate with lots of little dings and blemishes up close, but we think it’s exactly how 2CVs should look!

The blue fabric roof has evidently been replaced judging by its condition and the Matt’s Soft Tops sticker in the rear window.

The braking system was rebuilt in 2019, and more recently we have carried out a full service including oil, filter, plugs and air filter, plus gearbox oil. The door locks have also been replaced along with the battery and an indicator switch.

Starts easily and runs great. The gearbox is sweet and the brakes positive. Huge fun to drive and so very useable.

These cars are such an attractive ownership proposition as they’re simple to work on and literally every part is easily available new.
