A very original and well-preserved 560SEL with just 105k miles from new.

Dubbed the ‘Adams Family Dragster’, by a US motoring magazine when it came out, the 560SEL was launched in ’86 as part of the revisions of the W126 series. The creation of the 560 was forced by not wanting to be outdone by BMW’s new V12 750i. Mercedes squeezed another half-litre out of the M117 V8, boosting it up to 300hp.

This car was – like many MBs of the day – PDI’d in Cyprus before coming straight to the UK. Finished in Smoke Silver with Anthracite velour, it has all the usual spec you associate with the 560 including electric front and rear seats, heated/memory front seats. There’s a two-tone horn, A/C, cruise control and rear reading lights and rear self-levelling.

Comes with all its books and manuals, including the service book showing a full service history (18 stamps), the majority with Mercedes, and John Haynes in later years. Will be serviced on point of sale for the new owner.

Receipts show it has been well maintained throughout its life. Of note is a new genuine MB exhaust system was fitted in 2014. Just had the A/C serviced, which is lovely and cold. HPI clear, new MoT.

The bodywork presents very well and to our knowledge has not had any paintwork for years. Aside from the odd minor chip the paintwork is in very good order and there is no rust apparent on the body or bumper chromes. The car also retains its correct 560 front wings with the bigger wheel arch lips.

The 15-hole wheels wear matching Bridgetone tyres all round.

Inside the velour remains in excellent condition without any significant wear or fading. The Mercedes ribbed over mats are still present, as are the footrests in the rear.

Only 2 years away from Historic taxation class and ULEZ exemption.

On summary, a very nice, unmolested example of the top W126 with very sensible miles and a good history to back it up.
